Our Red Thread to China

What is “Red Thread”?

The title of this blog refers to a bit of Chinese folklore. I have seen it in several different forms, but the gist of it goes something like this: when a child is born, she has a red thread that connects her with her future spouse (or with everyone who will be important to her throughout her life). This threads draws those two inextricably together, in spite of any obstacles.

The Chinese adoption community has embraced this image and applied it to our situation: there is a red thread connecting us to our future daughter, and no matter that thread will draw us together.

“Red Thread” is also the name of Jackie’s site for our adoption and family, and I thought it would be convenient to use it for my blog also.
